Wakatobi is a snorkeler’s wonderland. From the moment you put your head underwater you enter a warm, clear, aquarium. The seascape changes as you swim out. First you encounter sea grass which is a nursery for juvenile fish, what’s surprising is how many big guys cruise right into the shallows, including huge Bumphead Parrot Fish, Titan Triggerfish, Blue spotted rays and Turtles.
In just a few fin strokes you reach the drop off and that’s when the magic really begins. Schools of Parrot Fish, Rabbit Fish, Anthias, Chromis,  Eels, and a  parade of Puffers and Box fish. There are countless numbers of Angel fish and Butterfly fish and a gazillion Damsels. Octopus, Cuttlefish, Scorpion Fish and Crocodile Fish are right here too. They can be seen during the day or at night right off the jetty in front of the resort!

Our fellow traveler Evie is an avid snorkeler, photog and fish tracker. Evie, ID’d 265 species of fish that she saw during her stay at Wakatobi!
Coral bleaching has not affected the coral around Wakatobi.  It’s a total delight to see vast expanses of healthy hard and soft coral in every shape and color imaginable. Our group of  18 jolly snorkelers enjoyed  excursions to the outer reefs in a boat dedicated to our group as well as exploring the house reef.

We were charmed and enthralled with our time in the water but also out of the water. The comfortable bungalows, gourmet meals and super friendly staff made the stay of all of us an unforgettable and happy experience.
One of my group said it so well “Who can improve on perfection”.

Wakatobi, Thank you for an amazing stay and I can’t wait until I return again!
