Palau is located 900 miles southwest of Guam and 400 miles south of Yap, at the westernmost edge of Micronesia. Palau is north of New Guinea and east of the Philippines.
The archipelago is home to 586 islands and some of the most biologically diverse marine ecosystems on earth. Over 400 species of coral provide habitat for approximately 1500 species of fish! Besides world renown snorkeling, Palau has amazing scenery; white sandy beaches, mushroom- shaped rock islands, ancient Palauan villages, WWII sites, thriving rainforests and spectacular waterfalls.
During our time in the water we may see schools of jacks, barracuda, black snappers, and wrasses. I always love seeing the turtles, cuttlefish, manta rays and mandarin fish or even the seemingly impossible to photograph thorny-back cowfish. They always seem to disappear as I focus my camera. A swim in jellyfish lake with thousands of stingless jellyfish is an unforgettable experience!
I choose March for our trip because its’ the time of year for the calmest sea conditions and some of the best marine sightings.
Palau is also very scenic above the water. Kayaking is a great compliment to your time snorkeling. Take time to paddle around the Rock Islands and explore coral gardens, reef fish nurseries, hidden lagoons and marine caves and limestone tunnels.

- Passport and visa: Your passport MUST have 6 months validity remaining from the time of your departure from Palau.
- A visa is issued upon arrival and U.S citizens can stay up to a year. You must have one blank passport page.
- Health: Cholera and yellow fever vaccines required for visitors from affected areas. If flying from the U.S this is not a concern.
- Currency: The official currency of the Republic is the U.S. Dollar. Visa, Master Card, and American Express cards are widely accepted at stores and visitor facilities

- Cultural sensitivity: Palauans have been known throughout history for their hospitality. Many Palauans are very understanding, and realize cultural differences and easily give respect for foreign visitors. Be sure however, to always pay respect to the local culture. As with any other ethnic group, rude remarks or any form of prejudice against the local culture is not taken kindly. As long as you do not disrespect the culture, violate historic areas, pollute, or harm the ocean in any way, you will find the local atmosphere very laid back and easy going.
