I was fortunate to recently visit Misool Eco Resort. It is located in the Raja Ampat archipelago in Indonesia. Nestled amidst a pristine island landscape and it offered an unparalleled snorkelling experience. Arriving here was a dream come true and exceeded all my expectations. The resort’s eco-friendly bungalows blended seamlessly with the surroundings and offered us luxurious comfort and stunning views. Imagine a warm tropical breeze and azure blue water lapping at your bungalow. Do you walk down your private steps for a quick swim or grab your snorkel gear and explore the fantastic house reef? Yes to both! After enjoying these activities, there were much-anticipated dining experiences to enjoy. We were greeted each day with a variety of menu options. There were so many delicious temptations to keep us satisfied. The quality and variety of the food were excellent and the chefs readily met all of our dietary needs.
Our days were filled with guided boat trips to surrounding snorkel sites. The dedicated snorkel boat was the most stable and comfortable I have ever been on. It had lots of room for everyone and provided ample space to change into our gear. There were padded seats, fresh towels, and best of all -the boat provided an easy entry and exit into the water. In between our snorkels, we feasted on a second breakfast onboard. Everyone had just enough time to snack and rest before gliding back in for some more underwater time. We were mesmerized by colorful, healthy coral gardens, intrigued by mangroves, and exhilarated by gentle drift snorkels. We arrived back from these daily excursions just in time for lunch- who wouldn’t be hungry after all that exercise and excitement?! The afternoons were a perfect blend of siestas and free time exploring the fabulous house reef. This reef was one of the best I have ever explored. There was an abundance of healthy coral and so many fish! You could swim in the shallows with a large school of Bumphead Parrotfish crunching coral or watch young green turtles exploring along the sandy bottom. The time went so fast and it was not nearly long enough. Before I was ready, it was time to say goodbye to new friends, wonderful snorkel guides, and the helpful, caring resort staff. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment and hope to return as there is so much beauty left to explore.
