Our Komodo snorkel adventure was a kickin’ trip! We had a blast. Three days in a row of swimming with Mantas, getting up close and personal with Komodo dragons and snorkeling stunning reefs….what’s not to like?

Our lively band of travelers reveled in our daily aquatic adventures. Our reef discoveries included a number of moray eels, cuttlefish, lots of blue spotted rays, snappers, sweetlips, boxfish, batfish,  banded sea kraits,  beautiful butterfly fish and zillions of chromis and anthias.

We played in currents at  Siaba Kecil and Shotgun and that offered us an exhilarating ride through schools of giant trevallis, barracudas, mantas, ginormous puffers, rainbow runners, turtles and angelfish.

At Makassar Reef we were enthralled and entranced by watching 6 Mantas gracefully circle and dance around each other for over an hour.

Off Banta Island we have even more intimate encounters with Mantas. We were visited by a couple of mantas in extremely shallow water, so close we could have kissed them and believe me I wanted to.

One day we watched a grumpy stone fish hurl it’s self around in the sand for quite a while. This is a face only a mother could love.

We had beautiful warm, clear days and calm seas. Thankfully the water wasn’t as cold as we know it can be in the Komodo area. It was mostly in the low 80’s.
As we cruised closer to Bali we saw coral bleaching in the Gilli islands north of Lombok. Several people remember being in this area several years ago when the reefs were much more alive and vibrant.
We were all sad when the voyage drew to a close. It was an exciting and enchanting adventure.
Thank you to all my fellow travelers and the amazing Pindito crew!
