First trip since the pandemic shut down the world! They say absence makes the heart grow fonder and it’s true. I felt like kissing the sand, the sea and the stars at our private camp on World Heritage site, Isla Espiritu Santo in the Sea of Cortez.

What a privilege to be the only camp on this uninhabited, dramatic desert island.
We experienced glamping at it’s finest. Our hearty group of 11 camped in uber-comfortable tents equipped with real beds with fine linens, carpets and ample room to stash our clothes and gear.

Our days were filled snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding and hiking.  Our guides, Alejandra and Manuel were two of the most caring, capable people I’ve ever encountered. They generously shared their knowledge of the flora, fauna and history of the island and allowed us flexibility to design our idea of a perfect day.

One highlight was visiting the thriving sea lion colony on the island. The pups were delightful and playful. They nuzzled up and climbed on top of us. It was a lovefest!

We heard the food would be good at Camp Cecil but we didn’t know it would be exceptional. We ohhh’d and ahhhh’d at every meal.

Our first and last nights were spent in Todos Santos at Los Casitas Colibris, an arty boutique hotel over looking the Pacific Ocean. Chef Iker treated us to a cooking class that turned into a dance party in the kitchen.

We feel safe the entire trip and shared a deep appreciation for reconnecting with nature, heart-felt laughter and a renewed sense of wonder.
I look forward to returning in February 2021 and beyond!
