If you close you eyes and imagine the most perfect island paradise, that vision is the Maldives.
Palm fringed islands with sparkling white beaches, turquoise lagoons, clear warm waters and coral reefs teeming with abundant varieties of marine life. The scenery is stunning.
The Maldives lies in two rows of atolls in the Indian Ocean crossing the equator. The country is made up of 1,190 coral islands formed around 26 natural ring-like atolls, spread over 90,000 square kilometers. Eighty percent of the Maldivian Islands are less than three feet above sea level.
The Indian Ocean has an inviting temperature between 80-85 degrees year round and fantastic visibility of up to 100 feet. The formation of over 3000 coral reefs and free flowing tides create perfect conditions for one of the world’s richest coral reef areas. Over a thousand species of fish and other underwater creatures inhabit the Maldivian waters.
The healthy reefs are home to brightly colored Anthias, Leafish, soft corals and Napoleon Wrasses. If we are lucky we may see Manta Rays, Whale Sharks, Reef Sharks and Turtles.
Our eight night journey begins on April 2nd, 2016 in our host hotel in Male .
On April 3rd we board the highly regarded Carpe Vita. This new 20-passenger, 125-foot wooden-hull safari yacht, along with her 61-foot custom matching dhoni (snorkel tender), was built by one of the Maldives most accomplished boat builders. It provides us with an elegant yet casual yachting experience, large, hotel-style staterooms, hot tub and plenty of outdoor lounge areas to enjoy our time out of the water and the sunsets.
A unique itinerary has been designed for us to experience the best snorkeling opportunities in the region. Our seven days will be spent exploring the reefs of Ari and North and South Male Atolls. Each day we will explore a different area and have extended time in the water to to snorkel the numerous reefs and channels.
The shallow coral gardens have a dazzling array of healthy coral and vibrant marine life. If we are lucky we may encounter Whale Sharks around Ari Atoll. It’s the right time of year and hopefully mother nature will cooperate!
On April 10th we return to Male. If you flight is late at night you will have access to a nearby hotel where you can store your luggage and use their pool and shower facilities. You may choose to extend your stay in the Maldives or continue your travels elsewhere.
